Chem Club's Sustainability Statement
As students of the University, members of the community and inhabitants of the planet, Chem Club has the responsibility to ensure that all our events and daily operations are conducted in the most feasible sustainable manner possible. This Sustainability Statement outlines the goals Chem Club aspires to achieve in its progress towards achieving sustainability.
- Chem Club will cease to provide disposable coffee cups during departmental events to reduce the amount of unnecessary waste produced. Event participants will be reminded to "Lug-A-Mug" from their offices and lunchrooms. Exception may be granted when a large number of external participants are expected at the event (for example, during Graduate Recruitment Weekend).
- Whenever possible, Chem Club will use reusable china plates and stainless steel cutlery during events where food is being served to reduce the amount of paper and plastic waste produced at these events.
- Chem Club will strive to purchase food and beverages with minimal packaging. Chem Club will cease to purchase or provide bottled water, but instead will serve tap water from reusable containers.
- Chem Club will strive to minimize the use of printed flyers and posters by increasing the effectiveness of electronic communication methods.
- Chem Club will support the ratification of the Graduate Students' Union's Sustainability Policy and will work closely with the Union's Sustainability Subcommittee on sustainability issues.
