1. TEXTBOOKS FOR CHM138H

CHM 138H textbooks are:

  • Organic Chemistry, 6th edition by John McMurry (Brooks/Cole, 2004)
  • Study Guide and Solutions Manual by Susan McMurry (optional)
  • Macroscale and Microscale Organic Experiments , 5 th edition by - Williamson Minard & Masters (Houghton Mifflin)

all of which can be purchased from the University of Toronto Textbook Store at 214 College Street .

2. CHM 138 lectures begin September 11:

* Thursday evening lecture alternate weeks only; schedule will be announced at first class.

3. CHM 138 tutorials begin September 18

All students chose a CHM 138F tutorial time (TUT) on ROSI. The Chemistry Department subdivides each ROSI tutorial section into a number of small tutorial groups, assigning every student to a particular tutorial group (there are several ‘groups' at each of the available tutorial times). A class list of CHM 138 tutorial group assignments, indicating the classroom location, meeting day and time, will be posted on September 18 next to Lash Miller room 217.

4. CHM 138 laboratories begin September 25

The CHM 138F laboratory section assignment lists to inform students of their lab group, classroom location, lab bench and work station number, will be posted next to room 217, one day at a time , beginning with the first list on Monday September 25. The CHM 138F laboratory class start dates are as follows:

  • P0401 Thursday October 5
  • P0102 Monday September 25
  • P0202 Tuesday September 26

5. To change the CHM 138F lecture, tutorial or practical time:

- until September 10 lecture, tutorial and practical (lab) time selections/changes can be made on ROSI (the Student Web Service);

- beginning September 11: only lecture time changes can be made (until September 22) on ROSI. Laboratory or tutorial time changes can be made only at the CHM 138 office (LM 217) which will be open at the times indicated below.

  • Monday Sept. 11 2 - 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday Sept. 12 3 - 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday Sept.13 1 - 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday Sept. 14 11 a.m. - 12 noon
  • Friday Sept. 15 1 - 2 p.m.

6. A detailed CHM 138F course information handout will be distributed to all students at the first meeting of their lecture section on September 11 th or 12 th .
