Welcome to CHM151 InformationIf you are registered in CHM151 for 2007-2008 please go to the official course website at the UofT PortalWelcome to the chemistry department’s special introductory course for those who are considering specializing in chemistry or a related area. We will emphasize topics that will lead you to the frontiers of chemistry research while addressing fundamental principles. We will focus on topics of interest that let you know what the field has to offer in a number of areas. . Details of available chemistry programs and courses are provided through the department’s web site. It is worthwhile to read this over carefully. The handbook lists course counselors who are available for more detailed discussions about courses and the implications of following a particular sequence. The prerequisites for CHM151Y are grade 12
chemistry and mathematics and the co-requisites are the physics and
mathematics courses that are listed in the
Calendar. We
will assume a knowledge of introductory chemistry as covered in the first 5 chapters of the general chemistry text Chemistry (4th Edition) by Silberberg.
The alternative first year courses, CHM138H and CHM139H, are for students who require grounding in chemistry
but whose primary interest is NOT in a chemistry-related science itself.
They can also serve as prerequisites for more advanced courses and fulfill
requirements for external departments. Since it will only be possible
to transfer between courses during the first two weeks of session, you
need to decide as early in September as possible which course best suits
your personal needs and interest. |
