These pages provide information, links, and resources for the laboratory component of CHM 217H1. Students should consult the course curriculum for details on how the lab relates to the course content. All labs take place in LM 6 (basement) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please note that there is very limited storage available for personal items in the lab.
Fall 2011 Labs:
All labs start the week of September 19th; please see the lab timetable for details.
Before the First Lab:
You must obtain the following prior to the first lab session:
- The laboratory manual (available only from the Chem Club, LM203)
Note: experiments, procedures, and questions are changed or updated each year; previous years’ lab manuals should not be used. - A hard-cover letter-sized laboratory notebook
- Heavy-duty nitrile or neoprene rubber gloves (not disposable ones!)
- Lab coat, safety goggles (conforming to CSA Z94.3-02), & paper towel
- Permanent marker (for glassware) e.g. Sharpie etc.

– make sure you know how to use the stats functions!
Make sure you read the introduction, safety information, procedures, and the first experiment. There will be a quiz on safety and procedures during the first lab in addition to the pre-lab questions. A multimedia presentation on pipetting and diluting is available.
