Commercially Available from Aldrich or 12 g phosphomolybdic acid in 250 mL EtOH. |

Potassium Permanganate |
Add 20g K2CO3 in 150 mL H2O to 1.5 g KMnO4 and 2.5 mL 5% NaOH in 150 mL H2O |

Vanillin |
Dissolve 15 g vanillin in 200 mL EtOH, slowly add 5 mL concentrated H2SO4. < Store in darkness! > |

Ninhydrin |
Dissolve 0.5 g ninhydrin in 100 mL of EtOH then add 5 mL of AcOH (optional). |

Ammonium Molybdate |
Dissolve 5 g of Mo7O24.6NH4 in 100 mL of 10%H2SO4 |

Cerium Molybdate (Hanessian's Stain) |
Dissolve 5 g CeSO4, 25 g (NH4)Mo7O24.4H2O in 450 mL H2O, 50 mL H2SO4. |

p-Anisaldehyde |
To 200 mL EtOH, slowly add 10 ml H2SO4. Cool to 0oC then add 10 mL p-anisaldehyde. |

2,4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNP) |
Dissolve 12 g 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, 60 mL concentrated H2SO4 in 80 mL H2O and 200 mL 95% EtOH. |
