TopicsThis course is designed as a natural follow-up to Materials Chemistry, which focused on the synthesis-structure-property-function relations of selected classes of inorganic and polymer materials. In this course we will be primarily concerned with newer methods of synthesizing inorganic solids with properties and functions specifically tailored for a particular use. The subject matter will cover aspects of modern materials chemistry. Topics are selected to introduce the student to current highlights of materials chemistry, an emerging sub-discipline of chemistry. The interrelationship of synthesis to property and function will be critically examined and how these create opportunities for new materials applications and technologies.
