CHM 317H1 Laboratory Manual:

This page provides access to the laboratory manual, which is available as a set of pdf documents. Any corrections or updates will also be posted here; students should check regularly to make sure that they have the correct information for each experiment before they attend the lab.

Please note that there are a number of significant changes from previous editions of this lab manual, including several revised and new experiments. Students should not use a copy of a previous year’s lab manual.

Make sure you read the lab manual introduction, safety information, procedures, and the first experiment. You will be required to print, fill out, sign, date, and hand in the Chemistry Department lab safety and plagiarism declaration at the start of your first lab.

Students who did not take CHM 217H1, but received transfer credit for an equivalent course, must make sure that they review the correct procedures for weighing, pipetting, and serial dilution. Some of these topics are covered by multimedia presentations (available via Resources) All students should review the on-line tutorial on Excel™, calibration, and regression – you will need this information for both your lab reports. Virtual tours of some of the instruments you will be using are also available.

Lab manual sections 2018-19:

The lab manual will be made available during December

Since there may be changes to experiments during the semester, students are advised to download and print only those sections of the manual needed for their current set of experiments (HPLC, GC, etc.).
