CHM427H Statistical Mechanics (Graduate Course: CHM1480H)

TitleCHM427H Statistical Mechanics (Graduate Course: CHM1480H)
Schedule2 lectures
TopicsThe course will examine and develop the formalism of statistical mechanics with a view to describing the thermodynamics and structure of gases and liquids. The course will begin with an elementary treatment of the way in which equilibrium is approached in macroscopic systems. After a review of ensemble theory and fluctuations, these ideas will be applied to the structure of liquids (through distribution function theory) and to phase transitions.
